Television Show Trailer: Make It Rain

I have a couple of confessions to make. I like strippers, and I like strip clubs. To be fair, it’s been years since I’ve actually set foot in one.  They happen to be a colossal waste of money, and aren’t very good places for finding a girlfriend or a wife.  Still, they have their appeal.  Back when I used to frequent such places regularly, I’d go to a club called Sue’s Rendezvous.  Sue’s is located in Mount Vernon, New York, and caters to a mostly Black and Latino clientele.  Some wild things used to happen there from time to time.  Me being the movie buff that I am, I soon realized that a Black strip club would be the ideal setting for a modern crime story.  The Players Club, Ice Cube’s directorial debut, doesn’t really count.  It was mostly an after-school special that alternated between broad melodrama and broader slapstick.  That's not nearly gully enough for true aficionados of booty clubs and/or gangster flicks.

The King of Diamonds Gentlemen's Club in Miami Beach happens to have gulliness in spades.  Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your viewing habits) the self-proclaimed “number one urban strip club in the world” will be the focus of a new reality show from Terrero films, appropriately titled Make it Rain.  It opens with a series of quotable against a black background, all from famous rappers who’ve name dropped the club in their lyrics.  That’s fitting, seeing as how the KOD comes equipped with a Hip-Hop pedigree.  It’s owned by Akinyele (Yes, that Akinyele) and Charles “Pop” Young, whose also Trick Daddy’s father.  Miami Bass legend Disco Rick is part of the management team, as well the clubs host.  KOD boasts celebrity clientele, hairdressers for the dancers and barbers for the security team.  It also boasts tons of behind-the-scenes drama, including cat fights galore.  Whether or not any cable network will actually have the balls to air this beautiful car wreck of a series remains to be seen.  However, one thing remains clear: somewhere in all of this is a glorious gangster film just waiting to be written.  I’ll be watching with my laptop at the ready.
